I have an 02 Ram Air Trans Am and the ORIGINAL battery is on it's way out, I was wondering if the UNIVERSAL instead of the GM replacement Optima Red Top battery would work? I'd like to put a chrome battery cover on later on down the road, will it fit? cuz it would have the top posts and side posts.

Optima recommends the 75/35 for the f-body as a stock replacement. The slightly larger group 34/78, which accepts the covers, will fit if you modify the battery box slightly to allow the battery to move further away from the radiator.
