Is my alternator going bad?
Is my alternator going bad? I have an underdrive crank pully and an overdrive pulley for my alternator. When I put these pullies on about a year ago my car charched normally. Now my car stays around 13 volts at idle and the lights constantly dim and brighten at night. Is this a sign that my alternator is going bad. If it is where is a good place to buy a good alternator? Thanks
no if your volts are staying at 13 then its charging the system and working, could be a ground not touching metal good or something simple like that, or could be the overdrive alt pulley. is your car a A4 or M6??

my car does the same thing only i have stock pulleys. I can also see the lights flicker when I'm at a stop. Maybe someone might respond with out saying its got to be your pulley cause you got an a4. I think sometimes we get in a groove and just give the mandatory answer. At least think about it, he put the pulley on a year ago and he's just now having this problem. Also he's got an overdrive for the altenator so that pretty much solves the a4 problem. Maybe it's related to the pulley, but maybe it's not.

My underdrive pulley killed my battery within a week after installation. It was the stock battery. I put the overdrive pulley on the alternator the same day I got a new battery. That was over a year ago and now it is flickering so bad that my friend said that I look like a cop coming in the distance at night. I guess I will fix whatever it is when it goes completly out. Battery, Alternator-whichever it won't be extremely expensive to fix.
