Default signs of a bad alternator?

I have another thread asking about idle speed... Some of the guys seem to think my alternator may be on the way out.... What are some signs that it is in fact the alternator? I have no SES but my RPM's have dropped to about 500-450 at idle. It died once as well. My volt's are at about 13 1/2.Thanks for any advice.

Just got it checked the alternator is charging fine. Seems my problem lies somewhere else.

Got any vacuum leaks? Have you worked on the car recently? It's pretty easy to forget to plug something back in or knock a hose off.

Mine charges at 14.5 on a digital volt meter at idle. Your in gear idle is too low for some reason - did you just have your converter installed by chance? Mine "hunted" sometimes at low speeds and when coming to a stop, sometimes even died - had to have it raised.

Got a cam? Or a converter? I have a 3500-3800 stall and a small cam and the pcm needs to be changed with the new add ons

So you might just need to flash your pcm...

Start your car and disconnect the battery. If it still runs then the alternator is fine.

Ya I got my whole electrical system checked at pepboys for 60 bucks... said it was ok..

Had to get a new alternator 2 weeks later.

If at higher constant RPMs 2-3k, and the voltage is going lower and lower (will eventually die out), chances are its your alternator.
