you need to go up there and take your title or registration, dealers will not just give you a key with out this. must have proof it is your vehicle and be ready to pay, there expensive.

Yea you could buy the key on ebay but you would need to know what your vats resistance is. Without having an original key that will be tough. GM could tell you but they probably won't.
Hmmm...I have the dealer service manual DVD I wonder if i plug my VIN in if it will know my VATS resistance. I can check tomorrow and let you know. I doubt it but it's worth a try.

I just checked the service manual DVD and this is what it says about replacing a lost key...
"In order to replace lost PASS-Key® II ignition keys, determine the required mechanical cut and the key code to start the vehicle from the vehicle invoice."
I had my VIN plugged in but I guess they don't want to take a chance. Looks like you will have to pony up for the dealer to make you one key. Then go out and get an Ohm meter so you can mark down your resistance. Then you can buy blanks from ebay and have the key cut anywhere.

When I lost just my DOOR key I had to fork over a title and driver's license! The guy actually checked up on it, too. He said he only does that for high dollar cars though. They didn't think twice about my Cavalier. If you are locked out I hope you have a copy of the title!
I had to pay 10.00 for them to look up info on the computer, part charge, and then cutting charge.

When I left my car at the dealership and only left them the ignition key, they just made one to open teh door so that they could service it and never charged me for it. When I went to pick the car up they even gave me the key that they had made. When I had to get aa ignition key made, it only cost me $24.00 and I went to one of the more expensive dealerships around just bgecause they take care of me when I go there. The service writer even bought my girlfriend, her sister, their mom, and their moms friend lunch the other day because they were at the same restaurant. Little favors go a long way in my book.

This won't work for the original persons specific issue but there are also the VATS bypass modules on ebay... and you can have your PCM reprogrammed to bypass it... but if you don't have the ignition key to make a copy I guess that doesn't work..
Thanks to Pewterpowre for posting the link above for the blank ignition keys..
