Question Strange Noise

Hey Guys,
When I get up around 40mph I start hearing a whistling sound...its really strange. It’s almost like an A/C sound, but when I turn it off it doesn’t go away. It almost sounds like you might not be in the right gear. I'm not really sure how to best describe it really. Actually, when I sat in the back I heard the sound even louder. Could it be the fuel pump?

Could be your rear end whining. Do you have aftermarket gears?

are you sure it's coming from the back of the car? if it's coming from the front of the car, your belt/tensioner may be on its way out (f-bodies are known to do this). you have an '01 car so you have a torsen rear. if you have a torsen rear it wouldn't leak right? since they have gears and not clutches they don't use fluid i think?

LOL! By rear end leaking he meant check your differential housing or axle seals.

I have decided that the sound is kinda like an airplane engine... It sounds like when your about to take off, and when everything is powering up. Like I said before, this sound only starts around 40mph and gets a little loader when you gain speed.

could be rear end, could also be wheel bearings. try to see if it changes as you turn the wheel.

PLEASE< PLEASE< PLEASE Trust me and check your diff fluid??? In fact, go ahead and pull the diff cover and check? I am this confident. Even if the noise isn't coming form your difff, with the zexel torsion, they get eaten alive by hard punches, especially with an M6 if you have, so please check it, if nothing else check and change your fluid.

you sure it isnt pressure build up in the gas tank ? i mean i had this type of noise once
and i had to put a little hole in the top of my gas cap to let the pressue off, when it starts making the noise shut the car off if it is still making but sounding like the pitch is going down that could be your prob. good luck though

i would just think that he has gears in it as when i went to 3.73's i start getting that whining noise at about 50 mph and gets louder as i go faster also. does the car feel like its struggling? sluggish i mean? may be a wheel bearing but that noise is pretty damn noisy....
