Default What is best Brake Fluid for clutch?

Going to bleed the clutch and have heard that valvoline is good? What are your opinions? Is it DOT 3 or 4?

Im pretty sure for the clutch you wanna use dot 3, not sure if dot 4 will work but I know some of the break fluid says good for dot 3 or 4 applications. Just dont use dot 5 b/c its silicone based and will harm your brakes

dot 4 will work, as dot 3 and 4 are interchanable dot 4 is just better, has a higher boiling point and is less likely to retain moister. Any clean new brake fluid will work though.

DOT 4 will absorb water more than DOT 3. But if you change it regularly, then DOT 4 would be better because it handles heat better.

I've never heard of that, were did you learn this? I was always under the assumption dot 4 retained less water then dot 3. From what I understand they are both hygroscopic fluids and Dot 4 will be at an advantage because its higher boiling point and that is one of the problems with water in the lines because it boils at a lower temp then brake fluid other then the corrosion to the lines. I’m not saying your wrong but just trying to prove were my Opinions come from.

This is a site that concurs with what im saying

If you are going to be bleeding the clutch, get yourself the bigger bottle of it. I believe it is a quart. By the time you get done bleeding the nasty old fluid out, you'll be glad you didn't get the little bottle.

I just got a quart of the synthetic Valvoline Dot 3 and 4, so this will be enough?

Question

Hi,
I have a 84 that when I went to start it and pushed the clutch in it went right to the floor. Got some brake fluid and filled it up and it ran right out under the car. Before I go under the car.
Just a few questions for ya.
1- Where is the master cyl. located for the clutch?
2- Do you bleed it like the master cyl. for the brakes?

I haven't been under a car for about 30years.

Thanks Bob
