Default Checking Coolant Level - 98 TA

How do you check the coolant level? My radiator is full but I want to check the overflow bottle. Ive seen some LS1 cars have a little dipstick on the overflow cap, mine does not have this.

Get one! Otherwise stick something down there and see where the fluid is at...Or just pour some water in and top it off, wont harm it. Good Luck

DO NOT fill the bottle to the top.

Just get a new cap/dipstick assembly from the dealer.

GM part number is 10188034, unless they changed it recently. Should be about $10. No biggie.

Just drive it around till it's hot, then fill up the bottle until you can tell it's about to come into sight. The level will go down when it cool off and it will come back up when it heats up.

If you fill the bottle to the top when the motor is cool, you will be overfilling the system and coolant will eject from the bottle when the motor hits operating temp.

Anyway, the correct fix costs about $10 and takes all of 30 seconds. There is NO reason not to fix it right....

yes sir, that's why I said to drive it around first, and then still not top it off

My coolant level light started coming on 2 weeks ago, off and on. Now the light is on all the time. The temp gauge has recently been running a little higher than the middle, and I'm not sure if it's due to the hot weather or something else. I checked the overflow and the level was fine, is there another place to check the coolant level? What else could cause the temp gauge to run higher than normal? It's not boiling over, and I don't smell coolant.

I replaced my sensor two times till I got smart and just unplugged it! No more stupid wavy red light... I will not hurt anything to unplug the sensor. It is 3" below your radiator cap. electrical tape it up and zip tie it out of the way.
