Default Air Bag sensor, Is it a must to replace after deployment?

Have a 2000 Camaro that had some minor front end damage. Which caused Drv-Pass air bags to deploy. Have located new air bags to install. Question, is it a must to replace the "Air bag sensor Sensing and Diagnostic Module-SDM"

I found that stated info, but I have never heard of a Accelermoter that is a one time use. Is there some thing else that is damaged that requires replacement of the SDM. Granted the unit dose a self test when powered up if there was a fault, it would be indicated by the "Air Bag Light"

Has it just become a standard practice to replace it upon a deployment, from a liability and safety issues for the dealers.

The SDM contains a sensing device (Accelerometer) that converts vehicle velocity changes to an electrical signal. The SDM compares this electrical signal to a value stored in memory. When the generated signal exceeds the stored value, the SDM performs additional signal processing and compares the generated signals to values stored in memory. When two of the generated signals exceed the stored values, the SDM will cause current to flow through the inflator modules, deploying the air bags.

Thanks Chris

The SDM definately has to be replaced if the air bags went off.

Any input on why?
Is it a one time use because something with in the unit is used, which requires replacement.????

------------OR----------

This it is a industry standard to be replaced for liability issues.

I bet it is for liability!

Glad I made the right choice though.
