Default Trip odometer and SES reseting every time car is turned of?

The car ha had this problem from day one, it seems the problem would come and go, but now it does it all the time. Whenever I turn the car off, and restart it, the trip odometer is reset to 0 miles, and I think basically the PCM is getting reset because if there is a SES light on, it will go away. I am thinking it is probably a loose ground or something, or some type of module. What do you guys think? I wont be able to take the car through emissions because the PCM needs to store data in it and perform certain tests that the computers at the emission testing will have to read, and if you reset your pcm recently they dont allow you to pass. What do you guys think I can look at? thanks

I remember reading another thread like this and I believe the problem was a dieing battery and replacing it should fix the problem. Try searching for it first though.

Good luck

The battery was tested and came out good, alternator is brand new. It has been doing this problem for the past 4 years of me owning the car, and I talked to someone who knew the person that owned the car previously and he mentioned it was doing the same thing before I bought it.

Try inspecting both battery cables. Maybe just replace them.

There's a TSB about 99 cars having that problem with their gauge clusters. Do a search for it on here, it's been mentioned tons of times.

Thanks. I did a search and found the same TSB and had my buddy look it up, and he said he will fix it for me tommorow. He removed my gauge cluster and read the part number, then looked up the proper part number that we need to change that part with.
