Default knock sensors

well as you could guess i washed my motor and not the knock sensor code is goin off. so i ordered some new ones and i herd someone say something about puttin rtv on them when i install them to prevent water from gettin on them again..can someone tell me if this is right or will if fugg something up or am i just better off not using any at all..thanx

Yeah, I've heard about sealing around them with RTV after install. Have you given it some time to dry out and see if the code goes away?

uh oh.... so they go bad if you wash them huh....

maybe thats why my new motor wont start?! uh

they are under the intake and sit in little wells that pool water. if the water is allowed to sit in there the knock sensors rust real bad. it is best to make sure you run the car immediately after washing down the motor to make sure the water evaporates from the engine heat.

the sensor (there are 2) has a wiring harness with a rubber boot that is supposed to seal the hole where the sensor sits. silicone all around the boot.
