Default going through a ton of oil

Does anyone else have this problem. I use 5w30 mobile 1 synthetic. car doesnt even have 40 thousand miles on it and has only been sprayed 5-10 times so i dont think it would be the rings but after i started the car today i walked around back to put my t-tops away and found oil splatters on my jeans. which means it came throught my exaust. Anyone have any ideas why it would be burning? the car has been fully tuned by a pro tuner.

The culprit is more than likely your PCV system. They are known to cause some serious oil consumption. The system is designed so that the crankcase vapors come from the valve covers/manifold and are ducted to the front side of the intake manifold. Under engine braking there is a lot of vacuum on that port, its easily strong enough to suck oil right through the PCV system.

First thing I would do is convert to breather filters. Either by removing the PCV hose and sticking a breather filter on the end of it, or by removing the PCV hoses entirely and installing breather filters in the valve covers or oil cap. Cap off the port on the side of the intake manifold, or you will have a nasty vacuum leak

If your oil consumption stops or goes down significantly, you know you've found the problem. Pull off your TB and clean out the intake manifold with Carb and Choke Cleaner, it will be caked with oil from the PCV - mine was very bad. If it stays the same, then your rings are probably going bad.

Hope that helps.

mobil 1 5W-30 is generally just too thin for the LS1. search for people with oil consumption problems. chances are they're running a mobil 1 30 weight oil. they're a borderline 20 weight and like water even at operating temperatures.

the best way to combat your oil consumption is to switch to a thicker oil. mobil 1 0W-40, mobil 1 5W-40, amsoil 5W-40 and "made in germany" castrol syntec 0W-30 are all known to reduce or eliminate the LS1's oil consumption. when i bought my car, it had new "mystery oil" in it and it burnt about a quart of it in 3,000 miles. i use GC 0W-30 and burn very little in nearly 5,000 miles. most people will agree, including myself, GC 0W-30 is the best way to go, but it's only carried at some autozones, so if it is too hard for you to find, mobil 1 0W-40 and mobil 1 5W-40 should help quite a bit.

Vacuum cap assortment pack from Advance Auto (my work). I think I used the one that was like 1/4" and ziptied it on for good measure. Make sure its a durable one though, the one I put on was pretty thick, and the vacuum from the intake manifold actually sucks in the tip of the cap under throttle!!

I don't believe in magic oil like everyone else does around here. My H/C car used to burn a quart of oil in 200-300 miles. Tailpipes were black, and the bumper and spoiler would get little black spots all over. I've been using M1 5w30 since purchase. I have a catch can, and although it does catch oil, I assume most of it was getting by. Emptied it about every 150 miles or so.

Engine has no blowby problems, and leakdown tests showed the engine to be in good shape. Last oil change I decided to try the GC 0w30 that everyone talks about. Didn't seem any different than the M1 other than the price. Oddly enough it has been 900 miles since the oil change and the dipstick still reads full. No more cleaning the rear bumper every other day! Catch can hasn't been touched since the oil change, and only contains a few drops.

However, engine noise is increased, and oil pressure has dropped
