oil change problem?

Well today i tried to change my oil for the first time ( i owned the car for about a month now), and the bolt that i need to unscrew in order to get drain the oil is dead on stuck there. Any suggestions how to get it out? I used a ratched ith a 3 inch extension. I though maybe hammering on the ratchet would help or some oil on the bolt. Sorry a big noob at this but need help. Thanks in advance

1)Be sure it's the right bolt.
2)Righty/tighty, Lefty/loosey.
3)2' cheater-pipe (a la jack handle) slipped over the ratchet will help.

Depending on who changed the oil last the plug can be either REALLY on there or just tight enough to do the job. When I first got the car it took me FOREVER to get the bolt off. Get a metal pipe of some kind (a breaker bar) and slip it over the rachet just enough to stay on and then turn from the end of the breaker bar. With some muscles it should loosen up the bolt.
