wierd whining sound

Default wierd whining sound

wierd whining sound comeing from engine it sounds like the power steering pump but it is full of fluid and doesnt leak what could be my other options idler pully??? thanks in advance for the help tim

Idler pulley, tensioner pulley, or AC tensioner pulley. (Most of these, you can clean and repack, as long as the bearings are just dry not damaged... Tiny tiny screwdriver, pop off the side where you can see the *****, clean 'em, repack, pop back together... beats 20 bucks each!

And if it's only on off ramps and hard corners, might be the PS anyway. Add a PS cooler MIGHT help, so might flush with synthetic PS fluid. Mine whines too.

how do i know wich one is bad?? can i just take the belt off and roll them by hand will the bad one feel rough????

it was the idler pully and the power steering is ruled out cuz it doesn't get louder when i turn.... could it be the alternator??

If you don't have a mechanics stethescope, us a length of hose to listen to each pulley as the engine is idling. Just be careful around the rotating belts.

I've had the same problem. I just replaced my power steering pump today b/c I thought it was the culprit, not so. I'm guessing it's either the tensioners.

i am thinking that it might be my alternator? how common is that going out??? it still charges fine but it kinda sounds like it is coming from that area
