How to change fuel filter?
Seen some pretty bad accidents caused by disregard for common sense safety procedures. Is it really that hard to pull the fuse for your fuel pump? Takes about 1 second.
Add +1 for just unbolting the damn thing. I would recommend you wear safety goggles and I did wear rubber gloves to avoid being "gas guy" for a day, but no fuses and such for me.
The reason for all the safety steps is to avoid the slight pressure relief. You could get unlucky and that stream made by your loosening might come right at you, which would suck. Having tasted/worn gas, diff fluid, oil, trans fluid, coolant, and just about everything else on a car, gas is definitely not tasty!
But as other's have said it isn't a lot of gas, a cup or two, so don't do it thinking the gas will just keep coming and coming. Drain pan + letting it dribble for the win.

pull fuse, open gas cap, used pliers to unclip the one end... let it drip into a catch pan until i got bored, then just unscrewed the nuts and replaced the filter with the rubber hose still dripping.
didn't spill one drop on the concrete! do i get a prize?
