Default How to change fuel filter?

ok, my car is rolling around to about 75k miles and i crawled under the car to check and see how new my fuel filter is and it looked like it was from the stoneage so i decided to change it. i picked up a fram fuel filter from autozone and asked the tech there how to do the instal. he said it was easy and just unscrew the one side and pull the other side out then sold me a ******* 8 dollar tool. so i get home, jack my car up and do as instructed and i get coverd in gasoline....geuss he was the real tool i geuss i need to disable the fuel pump. can anyone tell me which fuse disable the fuel pump?? and maybe if there is anything else i should know before doing something stupid again. thanks alot guys.

dont you need to purge the schrader valve as well??

install U. has the whole process, and according to them you need to disconect the bat. remove the fuse.

Need to purge from the schrader valve, remove gas cap, disconnect batt, and pull fuel pump fuse. Then go on ahead with replacing the filter.

Pull the fuse or relay. Start the car to remove fuel that's left in the lines, and let it stall out(run out of gas due to the fuel pump being disabled). Remove gas cap to relieve pressure.

There is a diagram on the top of the fuse box on the driver's side in the engine bay. It should say fuel pump.

as said above disconnect the battery, and uncap gas tank.

2 wrenches to unscrew the foward side line from the filter and the quick disconnect is easy, just pinch it or needle nose it.

ps.

how was the bath?

I changed my fuel filter today. Got a lil gas on me cause I didn't run it out but when I tried to loosen it it was rusted on so I twisted my damn fuel line in half. I got it fixed though so it's all good. Had to go buy a new end from autozone and bend it and **** and hook it together with a pressure fitment or w/e. LoLz it sucked. Now I know not what to do. LoLz

if you loosen the nut end abit gas will sart to drizzle out. Let the drizzle stop and turn some more till the gas stops. Its just pressure build up in the line you are releasing. Then remove it and install the new filter. Don't kink the plastic line from the tank to the filter.
if you disconnect the battery, pull the fuse for the pump and chok the wheels and secure your neck tie and wear your goggles and remove your jewellry and not run or smoke in the shop or whatever else... how can you sart the car to run the fuel out of the lines?

There's no need to disconnect the battery. Pulling the relay or fuse disables the fuel pump.

You can still start the car with the fuse pulled. There's a seperate fuse for the injectors, whatever fuel is left in the lines will get used up. It won't run very long. That's why you don't disconnect the battery.

You can forget all that, and just change it. Some fuel will splash out, but it'll stop.

That's the way to go. You don't want to start it and let your car stall, letting the fuel pump run dry isnt any good for it. I just did mine yesterday, if you follow those steps maybe 2 pints of gas will spill.

You don't get gas on yourself if you're not directly under the filter when you loosen it, fyi

i just changed mine 15 minutes ago for the first time...

pull fuse, open gas cap, used pliers to unclip the one end... let it drip into a catch pan until i got bored, then just unscrewed the nuts and replaced the filter with the rubber hose still dripping.

didn't spill one drop on the concrete! do i get a prize?

lol...just change the freakin' thing. why pull the pump fuse or relay???!!? or unhook the battery??? some people need think before they post. the pump only primes for 2 seconds with the key on, and won't stay running til you start it obviously. so why pull the fuse?
