Exclamation **HELP** Broken Belt Tensioner, Drive Belt

Hey everyone, i have a big problem...I have a LT1 94 Trans AM and as of late i'v been gettings some real problems with the car, my main drive belt is becoming very loose i thought maybe the belt was just comming off but when i looked under the car i found that the belt tensioner wheel isnt putting any pressure on the belt, i dont know how it really works but the tensioner used to push down on the belt which kept the belt tight and got rid of all the slack but now the tensioner isnt doing anything it just moves freely up and down, its not keeping the belt tight anymore. And I dont even know what i would need to fix it, and now im starting to loose my power steering on the car and im wondering would that have anything to do with the loose drive belt?? i dunno but i need some real help, and u guys are the only ones i think can help...

I'll go out on a limb here and say that you need a new tensioner? Just a thought...

While you're replacing the belt tensioner which is spring loaded BTW, change the belt too.

You're losing power steering because the belt is not driving it like it should. Get a new tensioner & belt if necessary.
