This thread has been done before....but anyway, I believe that ALL gas, regardless of the brand, is basically the same. Unless it's brought in buy a dedicated line, all the compaines use the same gas. They buy time off a common pipeline, then add their own additives. How much of a differance those additives really make, I don't know. The gas in your Exxon is probably the exact same gas in the Getty down the block. It really boils down to price, and what the individual station does to the gas, ie: do they sell it off the top or bottom of the tank.....how often does he get refilled....are the tanks/pumps new or old, etc. I've worked in oil yards where gas is brought in and refined. It's all the same for the most part. Just buy the cheapest 91+ octane in the station you trust for an LS1, and any regular gas for a V6 will be fine.

hmmm you realize even liberal gm says in the manual to run 93 right?....why 89?
I filled up whit 93 before going to the beach about 1 month ago, set cruise at 87MPH and average 21.6 MPG. On the way back filled up with 89 (both were chevron) and set cruise at 87MPH and got 23.3 MPG. I was actuatly more agressive on the way back. Now I know that is not the best wasy to compare, but I run 89 in everything I got even my lawn mower gets 89 since I can cut the gras 2 times on 1 tank instead of 1 tank per cut. I only drive my car about 1 time a month. When gas gets cheaper or my truck puts me down I will return to 93.

but honestly man, these arent supposed to be economical motors, they were built that way....they will however get tempramental towards that 89 your putting in...and unless that 93 is just crap, your losing power and wearing the drive train and fuel system parts faster

i fill with 91 at anywhere i can find. like SINCLAIR. im currently in iowa and 93 is rare out here. 91 is everywhere. is it bad that im using 91 at random stations? also the previous owners probably used cheap stuff on my car. i think like 87 and 89. they used that for 48,000 miles. is that bad? is it pointles to start using 91 now? thanks

I just tried the 89 to see what it did. I am going back to 93 when I need to refill. I work at a local BMW dealer as a tech and I know what low octane gas does to a high compression motor.
I am doing a head gskt know because owner run 87 too long in his car and it fried the gskt (detonation).

I run 87 octane, and every 5 or 6 fills up a tank or two of 93. Usually BP, mobil (exxon) or shell brands, never the off name brands.
The engine management has a knock sensor, which works quite well, so never any pinging.
I don't drive the car hard enough to warrant spending extra on premium.
