Auto shifts really late

Auto shifts really late Whenever I floor the gas, the engine speeds up too high, sometimes 6k rpm. Is this normal? This happens especially in the lower gears. The car is an automatic so I don't know if theres something with the trans, or maybe something in the computer... I really have no clue. The car is a 97' z28 (LT1) with about 50k miles, im the 3rd owner, I think it's stock but not sure if anything has been done to it. From what I can tell everything is stock on it.

You could do a search. I'm pretty sure it's common for the stock tach to read a little high.
