Default steering wheel shake

I bought my car used with about 70,000 miles on it. Since I have owned it, the steering wheel has a fairly pronounced shake above 70mph. Wheel bearings look good. Could this be a tie rod end? Is there anything else that I should check to see if it is the cause?

Yeah it probably possible, I'd start with having the balance of your tires checked.

yea i agree a balance is the first thing i would get done but i would also have them rotated as well... i woud also check the wear pattern on the front tires to make sure they aren;t wearing really bad in one way or the other...after all the tire stuff is looked then i would look into suspension...inner outer tie rods ect...

Put the fronts, in the back, and vice versa. If the steering wheel shake improves, but you start to feel it more in the seat and your ***, then its your tires.

sorry, guys I should have said that I have put new wheels and tires on the car since I bought it. The problem happened before and is still continuing. Seems to be somewhere in the suspension

Here is my take.

I see you have LTs on your car. Did you take out the steering arm to put the driver's side header in? I did. My steering wheel never shook until after I did my LTs.

I didn't put it back in all the way. There was still some play in it.

Check that. It fixed my steering wheel shake problem.

Thanks for the idea man, but I did not have the steering arm off when doing the LT's. Actually, they went on with almost no effort, guess I got lucky lol

I bought two new tie rod ends so we will see if that fixes it. Just need to get some time to put them on...

My front end is shaking also at about the same speeds. I noticed though that my power steering reservior was almost empty could that have caused it to shake? It has been leaking for a while. I didn't think it was that low though. I'm stumped about how it happened. How do I fix this two problems. Car has been aligned three weeks ago and tires are pretty new. Thanks and sorry about crashing your tread.
