Default Rear Defroster stops working, heard about the fuse mod

So, it sounds pretty common that the rear defroster will turn on, then turn off almost right away, which is what is happening to me right now. How safe is it to remove the breaker and replace it with a fuse. It seems like that is the only answer I'm finding on here, and one guy had his fuse box melt on him because of trying that. Is there any way to actually repair this instead of rig something up? Has anyone just tried a new breaker?

If you want to be safe just replace the breaker.

Has anyone figured out the reason why these breakers overheat and know how to fix the actual problem? I'll try replacing the breaker and see how long that lasts.

You could try one or more replacement breakers to see if that becomes a long term fix.

I just replaced mine with a 30amp fuse and was done with it. This is the second cold season in use like that and I've had absolutely no issues.

Same here...I tried to use a new breaker and it didn't help at all. So I used the 30 amp fuse. 2 years and no issues.

I don't have a shop to park in right now, but when the winter really hits and its hella cold outside, my power seat and rear defoster will not work until I dive a little bit then once the heater warms things a little bit everthing works fine. about a fix, dunno
