i like the fram for the sure grip... i use it on my other vehicles, but tests have shown that fram's suck. i used discount auto parts store brand stuff. it has the fram stuff all over it. and discount products are pretty much ac, like the oil.

Ok, the ONLY good thing about the Fram oil filter is the grippy thing. You know that there is cardboard inside of it just waiting to deteriorate and jump into your bottom end? I used to use fram until I saw first hand what it will do to your motor if it escapes.

Wouldn't the longer filter have a better chance of getting dinged or opened due to sticking out below the oil pan?

Yep, which is exactly why I put a longer K&N on mine - I'm hoping for a random, catastrophic failure.

Listen up, Ive always recommened the longer version filters mentioned. It holds a 1/2 extra oil which is a total of 6 now when you change your oil and it allows more oil in the pan when under extreme launching loads. Of course it sticks out a hair past the pan, but most of us have long tube headers or exhaust that it will hit and crush before it gets the filter. Its a wise investment for the longer filters if you dont want to spin a bearing.
