Speedometer question

Speedometer question OK heres the deal I am looking at a 98 SS with around 70,000 miles. Any way the speedometer is off and it has the stock diameter tires on it. Every one I have talked to said there might be a transmission problem, but then again most of them are not real filmier with the 4th gen. F-Bodies. Dose any one have an idea whats up with it.

Maybe rear gears were changed and the speedo wasn't programmed? How far is it off? Try looking at www.f-body.org/gears/

The only thing in the tranny that would cause the speedo to be off would be if the speedo gear was bad and even then it would only cause it to read slow if it was not catching all of the teeth.
If the sensor went bad maybe it, just maybe it could send the rwong signal, but once again this is not anything I have ever seen.
You need to find the RPO code for the rear end and find out what gears that car had from the factory. If it was a auto car it may of have came with 2.73 gears and if the last owner switched over to 3.73 then it would be off enough to cause the problems you are having.
