Gauge Cluster Question:

I am having this weird thing happen: after my car sits for a while (usually over night) this happens:

I turn the key and let the guages read (gas, charge and so on) then I start the car, when I do this all the gauges (rpm, speedo, gas and so on ) drop to zero them ped out at the max, then drop to their proper level.

Even the trip meter resets to 0.0 miles.

I know this is not normal, I have check my battery conncetions and they are fine, I check the ground under the hood and they all look fine, just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

Is your car a '99? I beleive there was a recall (or at least a TSB) on this issue for the '99 model cars.

Yep, happens with low battery voltage on some '99's. I'd have the battery load tested, replacing it usually fixes it. GM TSB is #99-08-49-009 (Trip Odometer Resets to Zero/Install Instrument Cluster) - if you need it.

What is your battery voltage @ the terminals? Can't really go by the dash readings. Just because your cables are tight, doesn't mean that it isn't corroded underneith. CHeck everything on the battery first.

This happened to be as well, battery terminals/cabels corroded and 8V on the battery.

Thanks for the help: I will check my voltage and even try and take the car to Auto zone so they can check the battery and alt.

But let me see if I got this straight: if my battery and my alt. are okay then I have a problem with my gauge cluster?
