Default Flushing engine oil?

Good idea or bad?The car is a 95 Z and has 95000 miles and it seams that each time I change the oil and filter that the oil is black within a 1000 miles. What do you use to flush it out?

Use transmission fluid. Drain all the oil, and refill with 50% engine oil and 50% transmission fluid. Trans fluid has a ton of detergent in it, and is safer than kerosene, which some may recommed. Drive the car for about a hundred miles - absolutely no high RPM driving - drain and refill with 100% engine oil.

Pay strict attention to oil pressure and all engine noises. Anything unusual could indicate a restricted passage or improperly lubricated bearing surface due to dislodged sludge or debris. Do not continue to drive the vehicle if either happens.

I would reccomend the same, except instead of the trans fluid, put a normal amount of oil in, the put half a can of seafoam on top of that. It will definately clean your oil and valvetrain.

If you add trans fluid I suggest letting it run @ idle for an hour or so, thats it, drain it out! There are Engine flush's that shops sell. They add a chemical, let it idle for 10 min. Next they drian your oil, remove your oil filter and attach an adapter which is hooked to a machine. The machine allows air pressure to force out the remaining oil in your oil pump and oil system capilaries. The machine then measures the amount removed and primes the system back with fresh oil. The filter is replaced and the oil topped off! Your oil is instantly black again, usually because of the remaining oil left in the system. Black oil is also a sign that the oils detergent is working. I think the job at a shop generally costs, $75-$150, depending on the amount and type of oil used.

Whatever you do, DO NOT DO THIS!

BG demostrated their engine oil system flush for our shop using a 350 SBC. This method will work great on a clean engine. However, if there are any metal shavings or a large amount of sludge on the top end, this method actually traps it on the wrong side of the pickup tube screen. Rather than being harmlessly deposited on the bottom of the oil pan, it sits on the pump side of the screen waiting to be sucked up into the oil pump, possibly causing oil pump damage or complete failure!

Personally as long as the car is running fine I would not do anything to 'flush' the oil out.

If your oil is turning black there is not a whole lot you can do about it. It is caused by blow by from the left overs from the combustion process making it by the riings. It is normal.

I always used Shell Rotella 15-40. Its got a ton of detergents as well. It sure cleaned the **** out of my old LT1. Looked like pudding in the filter when I did several back-to-back changes every 500 miles when using it (at 150K miles).

Well,I did the seafoam and changed the oil 2 xs in the last 100 miles.WOW!!!The oil came out the first time as black as I think I have ever seen oil even when its come out of our farm equipment.Second time was also seafoamed and it looked cleaner but not "clean".As for my oil pressure, another big WOW!The pressure used to stay around 20 to 25lbs at all time but now at wot it jumps to over 40 lbs.I guess it must of had a lot of blockage.I plan to change the oil again in 500 miles so I will post back on more findings.

i use 1 quart of atf and 4 generic engine oil. works for me on all of my cars. after that use mobil 1 and keep up with your services and you will run forever. if you have sludge then you must not be taking care of your car. sludge only forms when a engine is not properly mantained.

I am all for the ATF misture. I use it every 3 oil changes. NO problems yet and every thing is clean. Oil (valvoline) is clear even after 500 miles of hard driving.
