Scrape off the ice...

When I got the car tinted if I remember correctly, the guy told me not to turn on the rear defrost so I have done without for a while. Scraper and a window open will do wonders...

thats the dumbest thing I've seen on here in a while. total nonsense. anybody who thinks taking a scraper to their glass is better then letting the defroster melt the ice away................... well I just don't know what to say.

So if I replace the breaker with a 30amp fuse will the defrost turn off after a while like it normally would with a breaker? Or will the defrost stay on until the fuse blows?

it will work normally, the fuse won't blow. it stays on for around 10 minutes and turns itself off, like it is designed to do.

if the breaker is tripping, like we have tried to describe, heres the signs:

you press the rear defrost button.
the light comes on, and the defroster works for about 1 or 2 minutes.
the light goes out and the electric seat quits functioning.
press the button again and the light does not come on.
wait about 10 minutes and press the button again, the light comes on and the seat resumes working.
the light will only stay on for about another minute and it cuts off again and repeats the above.

are you saying that you replaced the breaker with a fuse and it still doesn't work? If you haven't tried it, do it before spending any more time looking for other things.

I've been using the 30amp fuse mod for a couple of years w/no problems. The defroster comes on for about eight minutes the first time, and if you push it again it comes on for fewer minutes before it goes off. This timer does not change if you put in a regular fuse.

I got my window tinted and the installer said the tint was no problem and to go ahead and use it. Dumb fkkr killed about half the lines on the defroster, though, when he did the install.

Mr incredible is exactly correct.

killing half the lines is probably the result of only one line being cut during tinting. I don't think it is a continuous loop, but rather 2 (or maybe more) loops. I could be wrong. Just suggesting that fixing it might be as simple as finding and repairing a single cut.

take a meter use it to verify voltage at the connector of the rear defrost...this will tell u if everything in the front of the car works....repair accrodingly.... measure continuity of the grid on the rear window........good luck..just remember all this system is simply....a timer to cycle on voltage and a simple wire in the window....the current heats up the wire...similar to heated seats less the thermostat

I believe at least one of the dead lines is a single, and I can't see they are anything but single lines across the glass. I took my time and went over each line from about nose far away and didn't see anything. I don' like the idea of taking the tint off to find/fix. I think it would risk killing more upon re-tint. I managed to get all my money back and keep all the tinting, so I'm averse to removing the tint.

I lost about five lines in a row right where a trooper can hide in my frost. Gotta be careful until it clears.

Any suggestions of what's causing the defroster to not come on? Power seat is functioning, but when I press the defroster button, nothing happens. NO light indicating power to the circuit. Thus, I'm not even able to move forward to check other items that have been mentioned in this thread.
