Default Overheat/heat Problem

Today I was driving and noticed my temp gauge got to 180 pretty fast, so then about 5 mins later it's at 210 and I know it never gets even close to that high on normal driving. Plus I just started the car up about 10 mins ago, and its about 30 degrees outside. So every turn I make the gauge will drop just a little over 180 and then a few seconds later it'll go back up to 210ish. I put the heat on too and it was hot for like 5 mins then little intervals of cold air when I had it on heat??? I'm starting to think it might be the waterpump but I have no idea, what do you guys think?

Its dirving perfectly normal just the temp gauge is starting to bother me.

if your coolant's full then I'd put in a new thermostat.

I added a small amount and the temp stayed down but I didnt drive it too long. What could be causing me to burn coolant and not let it to leak?

If it was a head gasket you car would be miss firing. A good way to check it would be getting a engine block tester, It detects if exhaust gases are coming from your cooling system with a dye.

Check your oil and coolant to see if there's any oil in coolant/vice versa - this would point to a head gasket as well. I'd take it to autozone and have the cooling system pressure tested. If all tests ok (hoses, thermostat, radiator), then I'd flush the system and bleed bleed all air out.

I don't see how oil would get in the engines water jacket if a head gasket where to give out. Other than the block is cracked and coolant gets in the oil pan making it a milky color.

It started leaking last night. It's leaking right behind my belt pulley.

Behind which pulley the one in the middle? If so it's your water pump leaking. Make sure to look if it's the gasket and not the weap hole on the pump.

I like cant see anything, I can only see the coolant slowy pouring out of that area. If it's the weep hole that means ill need a new waterpump and if its the gasket I just have to replace that right?

Or should I go ahead and take it apart and see for myself?

-Much thanks guys.

How can I see if its the gasket or the weep hole? I jacked the car up and looked under it but I can't see like an exact point where its coming from. Just the general area of the waterpump...should I clean the area and use a flashlight to see it better? Like im not too sure what to look for.

Yes, clean it up and inspect it real good.
