Default Problems with Trans Am headlights.

Initially, the problem was that the left pop up headlight was getting caught on the hood, so it wasn't opening for me. I arrange the headlight so now it is opening fine. But, now for some odd reason when I go to the foglight mode both head lights come up. This did not happen in the past. Also, the most annoying thing is that my RIGHT pop up light after I turn the lights off they're closing but the right light keeps on trying to close even more. So, I hear a constant bad grinding of the motor cause the light keeps on wanting to go down further. After a few seconds that thing stops.

Any ideas here?

Sounds like a bad wire connection somewhere. Either something wasn't hooked up right, or the previous owner may have done it. IMO

That's the thing though. I've had this car since 2000. I didn't mess with any wires. All I did was unscrew the two screws that hold down the left pop up light and moved it so it wouldn't get stuck on the hood when it attempted to login. The weird thing is that after I did that the right light started that problem.

The only thing I can think off is that when I re-arrange the light a little bit I moved some wires around and made some grounding contact with the body of the car. I'll have to double check my wires and see.

the gear is stripped on the right head light motor. when this happened to both of my cars. the headlights would come up when I turned the parking lights/foglights on. also they would go up and down if I locked/unlocked the car with the remote. Dam I hated listen to that like 30secs of grinding. Also they would open close and grind everytime you unhooked or hoked up the battery. In both cases I replaced the headlight motor and it solved the problems

If you do the free headlight mod will this stop the lights from coming up with just one turn on the headlight ****?

The gear 180 swap will fix it for a while. There are some brass gears available. And yes, most trouble comes from the gears not the motors. Try a search, Its where i found my info.

Damn.....this sounds more than likely accurate. I'll replace it and see what's up? Is there a write up somewhere for this procedure? ;-)

Its not the motors its the plastic gear inside. There's a guy that sells a replacement brass gear for around 45 bucks. His website also has a video to show you how to replace the gear. I'll find the website and re-post.

Is the 3rd gen fix similar to the 4th gen light fix? It seems completely different when I popped open my hood the other day.

That's the thing though... I was looking for the 4th gen fix. And, what I thought was the 4th gen fix on that websites didn't seem to be the correct one. My pop up light seemed completely different from the directions provided on the website.
