Default Need help!

Yesterday my cars started making a whistling sound. It is coming from something under the fuze boxes on the drivers side. Is this a pump for the emissions? It kind of does it on and off, but seems to be doing more now. The SES light just came on and I am trying to figure out what it is that is making the noise, why it is making the noise and how to fix it. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? Also, will it hurt it to drive it like this. I am at work and I live about a half an hour from here.

Thanks

That sound is the Air Pump trying to push air through two check valves that are jambed up with carbon. You can buy new ones or take the two off and clean them up with real good with a can of carburator cleaner.

Check the code(s) first. The air check valves are GM PN 12565503, about $20 each at a local parts store - more from a dealer.

I am going to go to Autozone have have them check the code. If it is the check valve(s) I am just going to buy new ones. They are pretty cheap. Probably a lot easier than cleaning them. Will it be ok to drive it like it is? Autozone is in another town about 15 min from here.

Should be fine as long as the SES isn't flashing on and off. Codes for the air check valves are P1415 or P1416, depending on which bank it is. If the code is something different write it down and post it before spending any money.

P1416 is the passenger side. Glad it was something simple.
