Default Cleaning the MAF

I saw on a show that you can clean your MAF (the little metal sensor in the MAF) with brake cleaner. Is that safe? It's a small maintenance that helps the MAF read correctly. Sometimes dirt and oil from the filter cause it not work right.Has anyone ever heard of this? Is is true or will it hurt the car more the help????

Don't know about brake cleaner? Don't they sell MAF cleaner spray off the shelf? Thinking I saw it at Pep Boys.

Never used brake cleaner myself, I'd be afraid to use that stuff for something so delicate.

Rubbing alcohol works well though.

I used the "special" CRC MAF Cleaner in the gray bottle.

It worked awesome and I TRULY saw an improvement in idle and gas mileage. Mine had 112k on it.

I've used rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip very carefully with good results. Worked on my '86 IROC, my Z28 and a buddies '87 Grand National.

Any auto parts store sells MAF cleaner in a spray bottle. CRC makes it.

+1 for the CRC MAF cleaner, I have read that Brake clean or Carb cleaner are too harsh. For what a MAF sensor costs it's worth it to get the right stuff.
