Default How to remove clamped exhaust?

Is there a trick to removing exhaust pipes that have been clamped together using U clamps and are now "crushed" together? Like the picture below... Thanks.

just cut the outside pipe along the middle up toward the muffler. (red line) then pry it apart with a screwdriver or somthing on either side of the cut (light blue arrow), toward the outside (yellow arrows), then pull on the pipe inside the one you cut. (orange arrow)

ahh dude, for some reason, its not as simple to think of it as it is to do. it finally hit me after about an hour of finagleing trying to get my LM1 out from under my car, then i was like duh!, cut it up ways and pry it apart, then put it back together.....i didnt want to cut it horizontal, cause then it would have to be welded back together. this way it goes back together like it should.

now if the 2 peices of pipe you are trying to get apart are going back together, make sure you dont cut all the way through into the interior pipe or it will never seal up. i will never ever EVER use thoes damn u-bolts or whatever again. never. band clamps FTMFW!

Heat the crushed section up with a torch until it turns red. Then start wiggling it and tugging on it. The crushed section will slowly "uncrush" due to the heat making it soft. If you're ever at a muffler shop waiting to get some work done, you can watch them do this to other cars.

If you are wanting to save the muffler, Stop the cut shortly past the clamp grooved area.

I used a dremel and an itty-bitty cutoff wheel for my 2000 Dakota. It was a PITA , but it worked. That was the only power tool I had available at the time.
