Default Changing Fuilds

Hello All! I just bought my 2001 SS and want to change all the fuilds to Royal purple. I used it on my 1995 Camaro with no problems but I been running from the time I bought the car new. The SS I just bought has 57,000 miles on it. What do ya'll think about changing the trans fuild? I been reading alot and some people say not to mess with it?

Most will say not to use a synthetic trans fluid.

I don't see anything wrong with changing it. Just don't take it to a shop with one of those transmission flush machines. And like others said, just use regular transmission fluid, NOT synthetic.

Also, there are much better fluids out there than RP, especially in the motor oil department.

My understanding is because the syncros are paper lined and the synthetic fluid tends to disolve the lining thus requireing syncro replacement.

Not sure whether your SS is an A4 or m6. I don't subscribe to the notion of not changing it if it's an A4. When I bought my car the fluid was old and made it feel like it had a shift kit in it. Flushed it and put new fluid in and it's great now.

I do the home flush method every 20k, taking off the cooling hose to the radiator, and use only regular dexron III / mercron fluid. About 10-12 qts. per flush. The new universal fluids everyone is putting out are not optimized. I just found some old penzoil for $2.

GM did not use synthethic in any 4l60e that I know of and the regular **** works great on the cheap. "If it ain't broke"

I hate to tell you but in the LS1 the Mobil 1 isn't much better than RP. My used oil analysis on the Mobil was terrible all three times I used it.

Default Royal Purple

I have used Royal purple in all my cars and trucks with no problems. I have another Camaro bought new and now have 187,000 miles and still running. I was just wondering about the trans fuild because I bought this car used. I didn't know what the other seller used in the trans. Are if he ever even had the fuild changed at all.

Only some of the 98 transmissions used paper syncros. Our cars use carbon based syncros. Synthetic fluid is fine.
