Default NGK TR55 Change Interval

I did a search and found a couple of varying replies, and the thread was killed (old). Anyway, I have 20K miles on TR55s (4 years) and plan on changing soon. Is there a rule of thumb for copper plugs? One reply in the old thread was change every year regardless of mileage - this seems excessive in my case. Aren't plugs primarily changed according to mileage and not time - do they degrade like fluids over time? Thanks!

I would change them based on mileage. You don't need to sharpen a knife if you haven't made many cuts with it, so why replace plugs if they don't have the miles on them to have worn electrodes? I've read between 15 and 30k for normal plugs. I know that's a large variance, I guess it depends on how you drive, if it's mostly highway miles etc. I need to change mine soon myself.

I was stupid enough to listen to that change every year crap. Pulled the plugs and they looked like the day I bought them on my 109,000-mile '99. I forget how many miles were on them, but I drive my car a lot as it's my only transportation. In two years I've put ~30K on it.

It's probably the same people who think German Castrol 0-40 or whatever is so good it not only lubes their engine, it sucks their **** too. It's just Internet sillyness.
