Changing oil filter

This may be a stupid question...but how do you all change your oil filter with Long Tubes???? I am having the damndest time getting a filter wrench on the thing. I can't even get it tight. Are there any tricks or am I just an idiot?

If I can't get this tonight...is it bad to change the oil, leave the old filter, and drive tonight and tomorrow until I can get it to a shop?

Stick a screwdriver through the side and twist. Next time don't tighten the filter so much. Prime the rubber seal with some oil and hand tighten it.

Actually the 1st time I changed my filter after installing long tubes was a little tricky. I had no problem getting a filter wrench on the bottom tho.

Well the screwdriver trick didn't work....kinda. The old, time-tested method of pushing a screwdriver through the filter worked, finally. talk about a mess though! Thanks for the input guys. Next time this won't be a problem as I won't be going to Valvoline anymore.

What filter is it? If it's a short one I could see how it would be harder to get a filter wrench on it with a long tube in the way. I run the AC Delco pf 61, comes down far enough to get it on there.

go get one of those rubber strap wrenches. get the rubber tight and you can point the handle straight down. normally like $15 at a parts place. they come in handy on other stuff all the time.
