Charging the AC system
Charging the AC system I imagine this has been covered before but the search is not working, so I ask. We dumped the refrigerant at the high side port and disconnected the condenser to relocate it forward. I am attempting to charge it at the low side port as instructed on the do it yourself canister. I was able to quickly raise low side pressure to 35 pounds with the AC running full blast. Car is still blowing warm air. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
It can take quite a while to get the system to accept a charge. Watch the compressor clutch to see if it's cycling, and feel around the lines. You'll first start feeling cold at the junction where the orifice tube is off the evaporator. You really need a high side and low side reading to properly diagnose the problem. Make sure you're not using refrigerant with added oil as you haven't replaced any components or removed any oil from the system. Too much oil will result in the system not getting cold.
You really should use a vacuum pump and evaporate the system before recharging to get any moisture out. If you don't do this, the dessicant bag in the accumulator can rupture causing a whole world of trouble. Additionally the oil will absorb water producing an acid that isn't to great for a system full of aluminum components.
