Default spraying co2 on intake manifold

i have some paintball equiptment leftover from my younger years, i have several bottles and a hose link for a belt, the hos will reach from the passanger seat to the intake manifold, i was wondering what ill effects i could suffer from using the co2 to spray on the intake manifold before each pass to maybe cool the intake charge, any pros/cons? sorry if this is a dumb idea i was just playing with the thought

In theory its a good idea..I mean people place bags of ice on the intake manifold after a pass to try and cool it. To be completely honest though, i'm not sure how much of a real benefit it will have on a composite intake. The whole purpose of a composite manifold is that it resists heat transfer better than a metal manifold. I'm sure the outside of the manifold will be very cold, but i dont know if it will transfer the cold thru it well enough to make any real difference in the density of the incoming air. But hey..i could be wrong (it definately wouldnt be the first time), you could always try it and see if it makes any difference..I would definately be interested in hearing about it if you do.

You might try spraying it around the IAT sensor on the lid and the MAF housing to cool the heatsoak buildup in that area.

That stuff is pretty cold, but then again so is N20 and it doesn't hurt the intake during short bursts. Do runs without spraying it and with spraying it, and see if there is any noticable difference. I'm assuming that the intake will heat back up during the staging lanes and burnout and it probably won't make any difference.

you really don't want to cool the plastic very quickly from hot to really cold. just use a bag of ice.

I know that some of the LSx Vette guys had a neoprene "cool bag" that they froze and then strapped on top of their intake manifolds. They actually ran down the track with these on their manifolds. I'm not sure if it made even a hundreth of a second difference or not, though.
