The only real disadvantage I see is that ls1's tend to use oil at a greater rate than other motors. A thinner oil to me would mean higher oil consumption. Maybe the reason it got such great wear ratings was due to adding oil so often?

It didn't use any oil during the time I had it in use. I added the last 1/2 qt before my two trips to KC and back at the end of the duration to bring it up to the full six quarts. It didn't use any oil at all that I could tell while I was trying it, and I was checking it every couple of weeks.
