Default Not wanting to start, surging, both intermittently

i'll drive my car to work, mall, where ever, and when i try to start it sometimes (more regularly of late) it doesn't want to start, i'll have to try to crank it for 5-10 minutes, then when it does start, it barely does, runs bad for a couple of seconds and then using the gas pedal i can coax it to get out of its slump, and it will run fine. also, at times, if it doesn't do that, i'll be driving and it will start to surge. i'm trying to scan it for codes, but my scanner won't link to the car (another thread in pcm/diag). so, does this sound familiar? plugs/wires, maf, o2's, cps? i've replaced the iac and the tps and the plugs about 18k miles ago.

Thanks,
Josh

Clean the MAF lately?

Crank Shaft Position sensor can cause all of those problems...and it may not ever show a SES light. Mine didn't.

Plugs could be dirty and after it runs for a little bit they get cleaned off of the crud build-up and than can run smoothly.

Clogged fuel filter?

Clogged fuel injectors?

Bad/failing 02's can cause this too, and they will NOT always give you a SES light either. Mine were bad and I had no SES light, but the scan showed they were not working.

the surging just happened again, i was stopped and the engine freaked out and went to 2k rpms and then i put it in gear and drove and when i tried to accelerate, it would surge like gas wasn't getting to the engine. of course i realize that sensors could cause this, i was just using that to explain what it felt like.

Just get a scan, with an OBDII so they can look at the perameters of each sensor. Not just a code number. Like I said, I never got an SES light for bad CPS, TPS, MAF or failed 02's, but the scan showed it all.

Just do the 02's, see if the ECT code goes away. When my 02's were bad the scan showed a bad TPS, IAC and MAF.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy the Bosch 02's. Get genuine AC Delco 02 sensors. www.rockauto.com sells them for $74.00 each, less than the dealership.
