Default floor jack under rear bumper?

I tried searching and couldn't find what I was looking for.
A while ago, at a shop that does a good deal of fbody and corvette work, I noticed that a floor jack somewhere under the rear was used.

Is this recommended? Where's the right spot to put it? I read somewhere "handle flush against the bumper" but I don't quite understand that.

Anyone do this?

Thanks.

The floor jack was placed under the rear axles gear housing.
