Default Ticking

Ok, so I'm out racing, have my car redlined in 3rd, go for 4th and manage to grab 2nd . Well now I am hearing a ticking at low RPMs. If you pop the hood and are looking at the engine, the sound seems to be coming from the driver side and toward the firewall. I know with this information it could prolly be thousands of things, but I figured it was worth a shot to see. My car still seems to run fine. Its a 98 Z28

I have the same thing, I'm 99% sure its bent pushrod, but right now I don't really care unless it breaks completely. Mine happened after I banged the rev limiter on a 2-3 upshift. It seems to be too much of a hassle to fix if I'm going to do H/C soon anyways.

If it is bend pushrods, get it fixed.......

Are you sure it's not injector noise? Or header ping if you have headers?

I am pretty sure its not injector noise and I don't have headers. I guess I will get it into a shop this week and have her checked out. Thanks for the help.

I had ticking does it seem like it's coming from under the car when you're stood outside?
Mine was a loose spark plug, tightened it up and no more ticking, also if you've got LTs check your cats, i also hit a dip in the road chasing a 240sx and it ripped a hole in it, that also made a ticking noise till i replaced it

Mine is very definitely a metallic sound, not exhaust leak etc. Its coming from about dead center on the motor so a pushrod is a good guess. I don't really want to get into it iuntil I do heads but I might swap them out anyways. I have also heard that a bad coilpack makes a similar noise.

It's probably a bent pushrod. Best to get it fixed because it could start causing problems elsewhere. Could throw things out of sync. An engine doesn't work right unless everything is working together.
