Default Fuel Filter

ok well this weekend im gonna replace my fuel filter since i dont know how long its been and my gas mileage is pretty shitty, well i talked to the guys i work with at sears auto and they told me to take the fuel pump fuse out then turn the car on and let it die. Then drain pressure out of the schrader valve and take the filter off so i dont get gas all over the place, has anyone ever done it this way before?????

I just relieved the schrader valve (put a rag underneath it), that was enough without pulling any fuses.

Seems like too much work, I just unscrewed it had a can under it to drain the little gas that came out into and then as soon as that drained screwed the new one in and started it up. its that easy dont make it harder then it needs to be

Just release the schrader valve,open gas cap and you're good to go. get some rags for the little gas that will leak when you change it. Please do not listen to sears auto specialists : X

I do mine about every 20-30k miles.
I would say you should definitely do yours, with 55k. Chances are good you've still got the original filter, unless the car was previously owned by a car guy.

I put in a Wix. Made here.
Supposedly the NAPA Golds are the same filter, but I REFUSE to buy there with them supporting TOY in Nextel Cup (just like Home Depot is now being boycotted by me for the same reason).

Should probably change mine as well, previous owner kept up with some of the basics but not other stuff. Where is the fuel filter located?

And what is TOY ?

TOY=TOYOTA

Fuel filter is located in the fuel line just after it exits the gas tank. It is a big oval shaped can bolted up on the body...hard to miss. Just jack up the rear end and look...you will find it.

I like to replace mine every 10k...which may be a bit excessive...but when you see black fuel running out of the filter when you are changing it...it makes you want to change it often.
