Need Help with 97 Pontiac
Yea I know it's not a preformance car but, While removing the air intake tubing between the air box and the intake ,,,((so I could get to the themostat I need to replace)) I noticed this tube has a small square box on the underside about the size of the air filter on my lawn mower. Wonder what it's for????? And here is the BIG QUESTION.. Why was it filled with oil??????? It was like 1/2 quart of oil!!!!!!!! And how did it get there?? Don't make sense to have oil in the air intake.

A 97 Pontiac what? Grand Am, Bonneville, Sunfire? Can you post a picture? Sounds like it could be a silencer. If the PCV line enters the intake track before this thing it could be collecting oil that gets past the PCV valve. You can stop that by running a catch can if you want to, sounds like it might bw worthwhile if it's pulling that much oil.

Thanks for the help 413.. I like the idea of the catch -can. I found a grand am site that agrees with what you said about it being a collecting spot back from the PVC. In the mean time I'll find why shes pulling so much. Thanks again
