Exclamation Please Help. EGR Flow Malfunction P0400

My SES is on so I took it to AutoZone for a scan. Its showing P0400, EGR Flow malfunction. So I took off the EGR valve and used carb cleaner, cleaned it. It was not really dirty at all anyway. I then let the car idle after I put it back on, and pushed in the diaphram and the car almost died...So that means the EGR valve is working fine correct?

I reset the computer and the code still comes back, so what else should I do? Or could the EGR valve still be bad? Solenoid or what?

Thanks
Matt

scan tool or by tapping it with a screwdriver or something. find somebody with autotap, a scanner, or a diablo or other programmer that can read codes and class II data streams.

Havent got around to checking the MAF yet, but I will asap. The car sounds like it is misfiring at idle, but its only throwing the EGR code. I just fixed a misfire from a bad plug.

P400 is "EGR flow" Sounds like the EGR has sh*t the bed. Swap it out with a buddies and try.

Rip your egr out and get the codes tuned out. That will fix it for good.

if you dont have any friends, you got bigger problems than just car problems that need taken care of, lol.

LOL, well I replaced the EGR valve along with the solenoid, and that fixed the problem. I guess there was some recall on the EGR's for 96-97? Anyway just thought I would reply for if someone searches for this in the future, there are many threads that came up in a search on the camaro forums, but almost nothing here.

glad to hear that fixed it. in the future, you can also check that style egr valve with a vacuum pump. if you aplly vacuum to the fitting on the valve, it should open and the car wll idle rougher as you open the valve more.
