Default Headlight motors on Firebird

I need two new ones.

I'm not swapping the gears around, I'm gonig to get two new motors, put the brass gears in them and call it a day.

Both of my current ones do not work, and I've already taken them both apart once.

My question is are these the right parts, and has anyone found them for a better price than the link below?

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...00&catalogid=1

Right, $170.64
Left, $175.44

AutoZone, O'riely's, Advance, etc do not carry new headlight motors, and you can't even order them thru those chains.

Just spreading the word as I just found out about these. HELP (motormite, Dorman) makes a replacement plastic headlight gear for about 15 bucks. Autozone can order them, but it may take a few days to get them in. Part # 42400.

I ordered the new gears from autozone and they failed the same day as putting them in. If your motor has been grinding for a couple of weeks i say best chance is the gear has ruined the motor, so i would just spend the big bucks and get yourself a new motor, save the trouble of putting in new gears constantly.

I don't know if would help but I fixed mine, its not the problem that its a plastic gear but that it does not mesh with the other gear causing just the tip of the big gear to wear.
what I did was I made 2- new side out of lexan, I sanded the old side completly off the traced and made 2 new side but move the center hole up so it will mesh with the other gear completly. I have not had any problem with it and works great and saved $$ buy using my old ones.

You moved the center hole up? I'm not sure I know what you mean.

It definetely sucks if the gears are only contacting the edge of the teeth. They are very likely to strip again. Make sure that the motor is mounted firmly to the plastic case and doesn't wiggle around.

I basically move the hole center in the new plastic cover so the big gear makes a better mesh onto the worm gear. and on mine you can see where it just makes contact on the tip causing premature wear on the big gear.
