Default High Pitched Whine At Startup

I have a 2002 Z28 MT with about 35k miles. Recently it has developed a strange high-pitched whine that happens when I start the car cold.

It whines consistently for about two minutes and then stops and doesn't happen again until the next cold start. It seems to be coming from the area around the driver's side of the engine up nearer to the firewall than the front bumper, but it doesn't seem to be coming from the engine itself. It is almost like some kind of compressor or pump noise, but I really have no idea.

Can anyone help? It is annoying and I would like to fix it.

I'm thinking it's the AIR pump, under the drivers side headlight area - or maybe just a loose air hose if it's coming from somewhere else. To verify if it's the AIR system you can pull the AIR PUMP fuse under the hood while it's making the noise and see if it stops. It might throw an SES light for P0412 but turn itself back off after replacing the fuse and a few cycles. If it's the pump itself and abnoxiously loud you'll probably need to replace it, or disable the secondary air system.

Mine is loud. But since it turned off after awhile I assumed nothing was wrong.

Yeah since the only time the air system is at work is when your car is cold and it goes to heat up the cats so it definitely sounds like your AIR system

what does that have to do with it? If it was a pulley then it would always do it not just at startup

Mine would do it in the summer during startup and would then quit - I could hear it cuttoff with the hood up and no more squeal. It stopped doing it after the first 2 years of owning the car though.
