steering column question

in my 02 Z28, some fat *** that was sitting in my car used the steering wheel to help him out of the car and it popped and the wheel tilted down all the way. its loose now but holds its position but i slammed on the brakes tonight to avoid a accident and i guess i tensed up cause the wheel came down on my legs. how do i fix that?

Just a guess but I'd think you'd have to get a new column. Unless the actual tilt mechanism can be replaced by itself.
