My 02 TA did that, turned out it was a plugged up PCV valve. Next time it does it pull over, open the hood and remove the oil cap or dipstick to vent the pressure. If it quits, thats it. Good luck.

Its very hard to pinpoint sounds in an engine bay. I thought it was coming from the trans for a while. You could also try taking tension off the belt with the engine running next time its doing it.

Not to hijack or anything, I am having the same problem. I replaced the belt today, still does it. Pretty sure its a pulley. Does anyone know how to identify which one it is for sure. I dont want to just buy pulleys until i get the right one. I dont want to have to guess at it.

well also... i replaced my belt the other day... it was fine for a few days, but after the first time it rained, the belt started squeekin like crazy... it was so annoying and i had no idea what to do to fix it because i figured that it wasn't my belt, so i tried some of that anti belt squeek stuff at autozone to see if thats what it was, and sure enough it was...
so you may want to try something along those lines first

it even happens to me on days where its really humid out... still dont know what to do to fix it completely, but you may want to try running to auto zone or somewhere and getting some belt squeek stop stuff... forget what its called cuz its been a while since i got it, but if you put that on the belt and it stops, that will be a lot cheaper of a fix, or even an attempt at fixing, than replacing your pulleys one by one... or im sure there are some home remedies to fixing this
