Default 3 week old t/a

I bought a used T/A bout 3 weeks ago...About 2 weeks ago I noticed it making a vibrating noise from the rear end I ignored it thought it was maybe the tires or exhaust...well it got worse. I took it into the local GM dealer and they tell me I at the least need new wheel bearings and seals and possibly a new rear axle...Well lucky for me I just needed the wheel bearings which was $450 worth in parts plus labor for a grand total of $1151 and some change....I bought it from a dealership which of course had no warrantee with it so I just got it done..I called em up today and they are gonna try to work up some sort of deal with me tomorrow. I just gotta fax a copy of the work I had done. The invoice also said theres a cold engine knock...Im fairly car illiterate does that mean Im gonna have trouble down the line with the engine or what? I thought it was too good of a deal to pass up...Wish I woulda passed this one up...Love the car hate the car stealership liars...Ok there was no real point to this post other than a rant and I get my frustrations out.

it happens man... no dealership is honorable. sucks dude. most dealerships give you 30 day or 1000 mile warranty when you buy a used car.

that seems awfully expensive for wheel bearings... i mean those things are cheap.. and relatively easy.

but if you don;t mind me asking... WTF are you doing taking that car to a dealer?

lol.

it's true. i can't say i've priced the bearings for my car.. but for my grand cherokee, each wheel bearing was $30, each seal was $8 and the each axle shaft was $150.

i ended up just doing seals, then selling it.. but stil.. you get the point.

if they decide not to help you out with repairs. then let them know you will be filing a report vs them to the better business bureau. and watch their Tune change about wanting to help you.

Rear bearings are no where near that price. On our cars, the fronts are the expensive ones, not the rears.....

I would double check with them on that.

It looks like they rebuilt the entire rearend...there are 6 bearings on there...I'm guessing this is the breakdown of what everything is:

Lubricant 8.800........13.96 - Axle Fluid
Bearing 5.447R.........44.94 - Front pinion bearing
Bearing 5.484R.........58.24 - rear pinion bearing
Seal 5.469R.............10.12 - pinion seal
Bearing 5.855R...x2...98.88 - carrier bearings
Bearing 5.536R...x2...98.16 - axle/wheel bearings
Gasket 5.399R.........9.70 - cover gasket
Cleaner 8.800..x2......5.34 - misc
Addt 8.800.............8.26 - misc
Lubricantion 8.800...x3...13.96 - limited slip additive
Spacer 5.453..........5.62 - crush sleeve
Sealant 8.800.........23.16 - not sure about this
Seal 5.822R......x2...11.30 - axle seals

$1100 isnt for just the axle bearings...I bet you had the pinion and/or carrier bearings making noise so they just rebuilt the entire rear end.

Ya he said that they pretty much rebuilt the entire rear end except raplacing the axle or gearings.....Finally got called back by the dealer and talked for 20 min and got pretty much no where....he said you shoulda brought it here blah blah blah how do I know that all this work was necessary so I fired back and said how do you know it wasnt necessary....I took it to a well respected car dealer that our family has used for years and we trust him...He asked what i thought should be done and I said I thought it would be fair if I got some kinda money back and he said he would have to sleep on it...He said he coulda fixed it cheaper blah blah blah...prob a temprary fix is why it woulda been cheaper...anyway thats my rant. I feel better now that he called me back even tho I am probably screwed out of 1200 bux O well a lesson learned...and yes I was a quart low on diff fluid and it was leaking they said

The original dealer I bought it from said he would send me a check to help me out a lil bit and would suprise me with the amount....I said ok whatever...needless to say he wont be getting any business from me or anyone in the surrounding areas probably.....Its fixed now but there is still is a lil sound coming from the rear end because the bearings wore down on the axle a bit...they said its ok to drive on and wont get worse but I just dont wanna fork over the money for a new axle right now...not sure how much they are but probably more than my original bill.
