winshield wipers stuck in up position
Using my windshield wipers the other day and as when I went to turn them off, instead of going down, then went up and stayed there. Everything works fine, no wierd noises coming from the motor. Did a search and couldn't find an answer. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Mine did the same ****, here I thought I was the only one. I never figured out why that happened or how to fix it correctly. I fixed them, but I did it in a back-wods kinda way, I ended up modifying the internals of the wiper motor. PM me if you want the details.

I had the wiper motor on my '97 replaced at the dealer to fix this problem. That was before I decided to check things out myself. Besides, it was under warranty and didn't cost me anything. I wasn't going to drive around like a dork with the wipers up for long.
They told me that there is a stop of some kind in the assembly that breaks and causes the problem. Must be fairly common GM problem. Could be dealer BS too. Don't know.

Pulse boards go bad a lot in these cars and water from car washes often get these parts wet and that does not help.
The mechanical piece above the wiper motor with the spring also casues the "bad" park issue discussed here. I just had this replaced and it is working fine now. The piece is a dealer only item at around $150 bucks a copy.

I was told that the problem is a design flaw that has to do with a weak positioning stop in the wiper motor that moves or breaks, or otherwise fails. So the wipers do not return to 'parked' position.
The dealer replaced the entire wiper motor, as I recall.

most of the time when you by a new motor it comes with a new logic board. My car had the same problem where it would occasionally stay up and sometimes go down. Replace the both of them & you're good. The parts aren't all that much.

Here's a picture of my Impala wipers; top of wiper motor. There's a TAB that gets bent and I've had to straighten it out twice in 140,000 miles. Maybe Fbody the same?
