Default Need some "fix it" advice

My car has 2 concerns right now and I need some advice on where to start looking.. First thing is that I have a pretty bad grinding noise coming from the back of the car. I cant diagnose it and need some help on where to start looking. It does it all the time whether I'm going straight, turning or backing up. Second is I have a pretty good vibration going on once I get up to around 60-70 mph. My car has stock suspension and aftermarket 19" wheels that were on it when I bought it if that means anything.

If its grinding i would check for a loose caliper first.

the grinding is not a good thing at all! could quite a few things, ^^ check the brakes, bearings, probably is going to be a brake pad thats down to metal, for the vibration, go get your wheels and tires balanced and that should fix it

At 65 mph, my car gets a good vibration as well. 70-80, it feels great. The car is incredibly stable at 110ish too lol.

Yea the fellow that had the car before me said he just re-did his brakes so I'll start there. It didn't seem like he was too mechanically inclined. It's a nasty noise though... Any more suggestions?

Ok. Today I noticed the vibration is felt through the steering wheel. I had a passenger ride with me and they barely noticed the vibration. Also, the car pulls to the right pretty hard. What could that be?

that can be a few things.

1. out of balance wheel- check to see if the wheel weights are missing, or just have them done as its not that expensive.

2. bad steering/ball joint.

3. warped brake rotor

What is the tread situation on your tires? Good, worn? If good then a wheel could be bent or out of balance. Sometimes the weights they use to balance tires come off. Rotate the wheels and see if the problem moves or stays where it's at.

Regarding grinding noise. One of the brake pads might have worn out faster than the others. While you are rotation the wheels, check the thickness of both the inner and outer pads. If you have a thin pad somewhere, the wear indicator tab might be causing the noise.

Once you have rotated the tires, checked the brake pads, and made sure the wheels are all still balanced, you can start to look for a deeper problem.

just repeating what everyone else is saying. get the tires balanced and the car aligned. i thought it might be your driveshaft, but if you feeling the vibration through the steering wheel then i dont think its that. you may even want to go to a place that does the balancing with the tires on the car. thats what im going to do because i still have a slight vibration around the same speeds. well good luck with it all man.

The vibration is taken care of.

The grinding sound is constant and consistent with the speed I'm going. It's not just when I hit the brakes it's all the time. It starts when I hit about 15 mph and goes up from there. Please give me any suggestions?

check out the brakes, they will squeak even if your not pushing the pedal down if your rotor is warped or your down to metal on the pads. other than that it could be tons of things, a bushing is warn out, or somethings loose...just get under it and give it a good once over, check all the nuts and bolts, check the brakes

the vibration could be many different things... does the vibration in the steering wheel get worse while you break? if so probably warped rotors... had to replace both mine.. or it could be out of balance wheels or wheel bearing... and for pulling its probably out of alignment... either camber or caster is probably out of specs, what kinda wear is there on your front tires.. like more worn on one side than the other or what?
