Fan Issues Okay I have noticed before my radiator fans turned very very slowly so I swapped them out with two fan motors from a 2002 Firebird but the issue I am having is now they wont turn on at all, is there a solution to this? is there a sensor in the waterpump that turns these on or what? I am planning on installing a Electric waterpump this week but I am worried that the fans still won't turn on. I know Jeg's has a switch I can buy but I just wonder if it uses the same sensor will it work.
if it wass me i would jump the wires directly to the ground just to make sure the relay and fan motors are operating good! on the pasenger side on the wiring harness its the blue and green wire that are marked J and H try jumping those directly to ground! you should hear a click from the relay and the fans should kick on! try one wire at a time, one is the low speed fans the other is high speed
My fans were only coming on with the a/c on. I plugged in a scanner and manually turned on the fans, both high and low settings to make sure it wasn't a pcm problem. Then I uploaded a new program that kicked the fans on a little sooner, a lower temperature than stock setings. Problem solved, I think somewhere along the line of tuning the car, the fan program got erased or messed up.
BTW- the temp sensor in the side of the block controls the fan kick on and helps the pcm decide the air to fuel by comparing the water temp with the intake temp or something like that. The sensor has three prongs for all the devices it controls. Its probably not a mechanical issue, but a program issue. On my car the relays would kick but no fans, just like your car.
